Doing without is honorable,
fasting disciplines our souls.
Simplicity: so elegant!
The free are not possessed by things,
but thanksgiving calls for
a feast and many friends.
Mashed potatoes need gravy;
responsibilities, laughter.

Every Thursday night in winter, we offer three dozen friends soup. They bring the rest.
